Marble Coasters: How to Choose a Colourway for Your Home

A grid of six marble-effect coaster sets in green, cyan and gold, grey and gold, lilac, coffee and cream, and black and gold

Marble never really goes out of style. It feels a little luxurious, it suits almost any room, and a swirl of gold veining makes even a weekday cuppa feel special. Marble coasters are an easy way to bring that look into your home, or to give it as a housewarming present, without paying for a stone worktop.

This guide covers what "marble-effect" actually means, how our colourways differ, and how to pick the right one for a room or a person.

First, an honest note: marble-effect, not stone

Our marble coasters are printed with marble-effect artwork. They are not cut from real stone. That is worth knowing, because it changes how they behave:

  • They will not stain like real marble. Real marble is porous and can mark from coffee, wine or citrus. Our printed coasters have a glossy sealed surface that wipes clean.
  • They are lighter than solid stone coasters, with a cork back on ceramic sets and rubber feet on glass sets to protect your furniture.
  • Every design is consistent, so a set of six looks coordinated instead of random.

If you want genuine stone, look for solid marble coasters. If you want the look with easy care, marble-effect is the practical choice.

The colourways, and where they work

Green marble: calm and botanical

The Green Marble Round Ceramic Coasters have soft sage and deep green veining. They look at home in kitchens with wooden worktops, homes full of houseplants, and anywhere with a natural, earthy palette.

Cyan, blue and gold: fresh and coastal

The Cyan, Blue & Gold Marble Ceramic Coasters are bright and airy, with gold lines running through the blues. Try them in coastal-style homes, white or navy kitchens, and bathrooms-turned-reading-nooks. The Blue Swirl Marble Ceramic Coasters are a softer, inkier alternative.

Grey, white and gold: the safe bet

If you are buying for someone and do not know their décor, the Grey, White & Gold Marble Ceramic Coasters are the safest choice. Neutral, elegant, and they go with almost anything.

Lilac, violet and gold: a little playful

The Lilac, Violet & Gold Marble Ceramic Coasters bring soft purples with gold accents. They are lovely in bedrooms, dressing-table corners and pastel kitchens, and make a thoughtful gift for anyone whose favourite colour is purple.

Coffee and cream: warm and cosy

The Coffee & Cream Marble Ceramic Coasters are warm caramel and cream with soft veining. They suit oak furniture, cream sofas, and anyone who thinks the best room in the house is the one with the kettle.

Black and gold lava: bold and dramatic

For darker interiors or a statement coffee table, the Black & Gold Lava Marble Ceramic Coasters have glowing gold and amber veins on deep black. They are striking against dark wood, charcoal walls or a black kitchen.

Terrazzo splash: speckled and modern

The Terrazzo Splash Round Ceramic Coasters are not strictly marble, but they sit in the same family: neutral backgrounds with flecks of colour. They are great for modern kitchens and mid-century style rooms.

Prefer glass? Red, teal and gold agate

If a square glass coaster suits the room better, the Red, Teal & Gold Marble Glass Coasters give an agate-style marble look with a smooth tempered-glass top and non-slip rubber feet.

How to choose in 30 seconds

Match the colourway to the room.
  1. Look at the biggest surface. Worktop, coffee table or desk? Choose a colourway that either matches it or contrasts with it on purpose.
  2. Pick out the metal. Brass, gold or copper handles and lamps? Choose a gold-veined design. Chrome and silver? Grey and white, or cyan, will sit better.
  3. When in doubt, go neutral. Grey, white and gold, or coffee and cream, work in nearly every home.
  4. For a gift, think personality, not just décor. Bold friends get lava. Calm friends get green.

Can you mix and match?

Yes, and it often looks better than a single colourway. Because every set shares the same round shape and glossy finish, two sets sit happily together. A few pairings that work well:

  • Grey, white and gold with black and gold lava for a monochrome kitchen with a bit of drama.
  • Green marble with coffee and cream for a warm, natural lounge.
  • Cyan, blue and gold with blue swirl for a coastal look in shades of blue.

Splitting two sets between the kitchen and the living room is also a neat way to tie the rooms together.

What you get with every ceramic set

  • Six round ceramic coasters, about 10 cm across, with a glossy UV-printed finish.
  • Cork backing to help protect furniture.
  • Suitable for hot and cold drinks.
  • Designed and made in Britain, printed to order in our Cornwall workshop and usually ready to post within 5–7 working days.

Care tips

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Do not soak them, and keep them out of the dishwasher and microwave. That is all it takes to keep the gold veining bright.
